When I was going through my diagnosis for ME / Chronic Fatigue Syndrome one of my initial symptoms were internal tremors / nerve pain. These were one of the most debilitating symptoms, impacting my ability to walk and causing me to stay awake for hours at night.
A year later, and apart from the occasional flare up when all of my symptoms are exacerbated, the internal tremors and nerve pain have all but disappeared. What I believe was the solution for me, Magnesium, and in particular, Magnesium Glycinate.
While I’m sharing my personal experience with magnesium supplements, I’m not a medical professional. Everyone’s body and health needs are different, so it’s always best to consult with your doctor or a qualified healthcare provider before starting any new supplement — especially if you’re pregnant, breastfeeding, taking medications or have any underlying health conditions.
Types of Magnesium Supplements
There are several types of Magnesium – and all are beneficial for suiting a range of symptoms.
Magnesium Citrate
Magnesium Citrate is best for treating constipation, muscle cramps and general magnesium deficiency.
This is one of the most commonly used forms of magnesium.
Magnesium Glycinate
Magnesium Glycinate is best for anxiety, sleep and muscle recovery. As mentioned, I found this particularly beneficial for supporting my nervous symptom.
It has a calming effect on the brain and a soothing effect on the stomach.
Magnesium Malate
Magnesium Malate is best for treating fatigue, fibromyalgia and muscle function.
It combines magnesium with malic acid, which is involved in energy production. It may help with chronic fatigue and muscle pain.
