I’m finally getting back to writing, after what was a few days, turning into weeks, then months, then ultimately years off! In that time, we went through Covid, I changed jobs, got married, bought a house and then went on honeymoon – so I’ve definitely been keeping busy!
It was around the time that my schedule started to fill up that I felt the blogging industry start to dwindle. More and more traditional bloggers turned to Instagram, TikTok and YouTube. Their passions and interests changed, fashion and beauty bloggers and vloggers turned into parenting or body confidence bloggers and vloggers. I still follow them and enjoy their content but the blogging and vlogging sphere has definitely changed from 5 years ago. Don’t get me wrong, I gave YouTube a go and you can actually view my videos on there. I really enjoyed the unboxing of subscription boxes and so maybe this is something that we can bring back alongside this blog, primarily though writing is my favourite creative outlet. If I bring my YouTube videos back, what would you like to see more of?
This blog was originally called Pretty & Petit, and this stemmed from my enjoyment of promoting small businesses through my writing. I will, of course, continue to promote small businesses through this blog but I want to dedicate my latest project, The Small Business Directory, to this content with a brand new website launching soon which will have an associated blog. I will be announcing when this goes live on both this blog and my Instagram so make sure to give me a follow @becky.thi!
This blog, which I have now renamed Rebecca Thi, will be predominantly focused on fashion. a topic I love talking about, beauty, as previous readers seemed to enjoy those posts and lifestyle as there a few topics which I feel passionate about particularly around mental and physical health so I am keen to discuss these more. I also want it to be home to writing projects, there are larger themes that I am interested in writing about, particularly around fashion theory, culture and marketing. I may also delve into some creative writing! For now, I’m very much keeping my options open to see what opportunities arise and if you have any further suggestions I’d love to hear from you!
The other reason I’m very much keeping my options open with this blog is 2022 has been the year of trying to find my ‘thing’, my main interest, the thing I am most passionate about – and I don’t feel like I’ve found it yet. When I think of friends and family I can easily say what their key interests are, and what they’re passionate about. Yes, I’m passionate about small businesses, and about fashion but are they my key interests? I’m not sure. I love reading and writing, but am I known for that? I think this blog will partly be a journey of finding what I love, what I am passionate about and I’d love for you to come on that journey with me, perhaps along the way you will find the ‘thing’ you are most passionate about too!
My current plan is to aim to upload once a week on a Sunday, which will move to twice a week, Tuesdays and Sundays, in 2023.
Rebecca Thi
